Attack on Mexican helicopter leads to kidnapping victims, marijuana

A Monday afternoon attack on a Mexican military helicopter in Reynosa lead to the rescue of eight kidnapping victims and the seizure of more than 15,000 pounds of marijuana.

The Mexican Navy (SEMAR) released information about the alleged attack on Tuesday.

SEMAR officials said a helicopter was patrolling the Reynosa area when it spotted a convoy of vehicles with armed men around midday Monday.

Mexican Navy personnel returned fire and subdued the suspects.

Authorities rescued eight alleged kidnapping victims and seized 762 packages with about seven metric tons of marijuana, roughly about 15,432 pounds.

SEMAR officials said 15 suspects were arrested at the scene while authorities sezied 10 assault rifles, ammo and vehicles.

Authorities reported the seizure of 368 packages in another incident in nearby Diaz Ordaz.

Navy personnel arrested three men and sezied a vast cache of weapons that included an anti-tank rocket launcher, assault rifles, grenades and ammo.
