A strong thunderstorm moving through Southern Starr County is producing heavy rainfall and gusty winds possibly reaching 50 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the areas of Rosita, Roma, Rio Grande City, Villareal, and Escobares until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Earlier this afternoon, an Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory had been issued for central Hidalgo County -- including the rural communities of McCook and Puerto Rico.
Runoff from heavy downpour upstream Tuesday may push the water up to or over the banks and possibly causing flooding along some of these waterways.
Low-lying bridges over these areas may become flooded.
Fast-rising waters in small streams and arroyos in parts of central Brooks County are being caused by heavy rains over the area.
These waterways may spill over their banks.
Localized heavy downpours in Brooks County and southwest of Starr County have moved in over the last few hours.
The National Weather Service issued an Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for central Brooks County, expiring at 4:30 p.m.
Some of the stronger storms have produced lightning.
Most parts of the valley have only picked up light to moderate rainfall amounts.
