The roadway from Expressway 83 and Business 83 in Peñitas all the way back to Inspiration Road and Expressway 83 in Palmview has been under construction for almost 2 and a half years.

"It's been going on for a while," said Jorge Licona, who works at his family business Tortilleria Bertha.

The roadway goes through the city of Palmview, and some businesses have had enough of the unfinished roadway.

"It got slow and nobody wanted to come in here," said Licona.

He said just a few months ago the road in front of the store was a mess.

"At the beginning there was no business at all, and it affected I think everybody," said Licona.

Business managers like Licona said the unfinished road deters customers.

"I hope they finish pretty soon that way there are more cars passing by," said Licona.

Patience is running thin, and Palmview businesses want to know when the road will be done.

"We understand for those residents and businesses in that area how frustrating the construction can be," said Amy Rodriguez with the Texas Department of Transportation.

Rodriguez said there have been delays in widening the roadway in Palmview.

For example, utilities needed to be moved, so that construction could go underway.

"They've done their best to work around it," said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said the project includes building underground drainage, and the contractor is making changes to get the construction done quicker.

"They've extended their work week to about a 6 day work week, and they've also brought in crews from other projects," said Rodriguez.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2010.
