Authorities are investigating how a cow ended up in the waters of Arroyo Colorado at a popular hike-and-bike trail in Harlingen.

Rescuers from the Harlingen Police and Fire Departments worked hard to get a cow out of the water on Sunday.

An Action 4 News viewer sent several images of the rescue efforts, which took place near Boggus Ford off U.S. Expressway 77/83.

Firefighters told Action 4 News that it took about six hours to safely remove the cow from the water and get it out of the area.

The cow is said to be doing just fine now.
