Funeral arrangements have been confirmed for an Edinburg Marine killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan.
The body of Lance Cpl. Derek Hernandez will arrive at McCreery Aviation in McAllen at 11:55 a.m. on Sunday, June 13th.
Family members will be at Memorial Funeral Home at 208 East Canton in Edinburg on Monday, June 14th from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. that night.
A funeral Mass is scheduled at Holy Family Catholic Church at 1302 East Champion Street at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15th.
A burial service will follow at Palm Valley Cemetery at 4607 North Sugar Road in Pharr.
A community reception will be held following the burial at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium off 415 West University Drive.
Edinburg city officials are planning routes for people wishing to honor the fallen Marine while en route to the funeral home, church and cemetery.
The routes will be released Friday afternoon.
Hernandez is the 31st member of the armed services to be killed in either Afghanistan or Iraq.
He is the fifth soldier to be killed from Edinburg.
