The McAllen Public Works team is staying ahead of any potential storm this hurricane season by removing or trimming trees that pose a potential hazard to people and property.

While a tree may have big shady branches ,a tree's poor health could cause it to fall and hurt someone or hamper an evacuation during an emergency.

The City of McAllen tells Action 4 News it has an inventory of about 115,000 trees and about 26,000 of them could use a trim.

For hurricane preparation crews will prioritize those along some the cities busiest thoroughfares.

"Especially it will be Jackson, Mccoll areas 2nd street 10th street Bicentennial , Nolana, to make sure that the emergency vehicles will be able to pass by there there will not be any delays," said Brush Collection Supervisor Cesar Hinojosa.

The public works crew coordinates the tree trimming with the City of McAllen's Traffic Department.

If you know of a potentially hazardous tree in your area, contact the City of McAllen Recycling Center at 956-681-4050.
