Mexican Navy officials reported a Gulf Cartel leader and two men were arrested in the Tamaulipas border city on Wednesday.

Authorities were out on patrol when they allegedly spotted a suspicious vehicle off Calle Plan de Guadalupe between Avenidas Quinta and Sexta.

Investigators said the driver was acting suspicious when Navy personnel spotted two large assault rifles in the back seat.

The driver and his two passengers were asked to step out of their SUV.

Authorities searched the vehicle seized the weapons, ammunition, cash, marijuana and communications devices.

The Mexican Navy identified the suspects as:

Jose Alberto Silva-Martinez, aka El Polito, 34

Authorities reported identified Silva-Martinez as a Gulf Cartel leader and Ruiz-Moreno and Lopez-Albarran as members of the same drug trafficking organization.

Mexican officials reported that Ruiz-Moreno is from Rio Grande City.
