AAA Is advocating for laws that make it illegal for drivers of all ages to send, write or read text messages or email while their vehicle is in the motion.

Dan Ronan with AAA says AAA wants to have texting banned in all 50 states by 2013.

Ronan says, "What we’re trying to do to explain to folks is just bring the word out that texting while driving is a real serious problem."

Traffic safety experts say text messaging is one of the most common forms of distracted driving, text messaging takes your hands of the wheel and your eyes and mind off the road.

Ronan says, "You have to ask yourself is this text message is this email that I'm sending worth dying for or spending a considerable amount of time in the hospital or wrecking my car."

Aside from texting, drivers can also be distracted with phone calls.

Jonathan Montemayor with Pocket Communications says, "It's better to be safe than sorry".

Montemayor says there are plenty of hands free devices on the market that will keep your hands on the steering wheel.

Montemayor says, "We offer some that start at $39.00 all the way up to $129.00 just depending on the quality and different features customers are looking for."

Montemayor tells Action 4 News a lot of new blue tooth headsets are now a lot more convenient and a lot easier to use.

At the end of the day it's all about public safety.

Ronan with AAA says, "This is not just a problem for young people or old people but distracted driving is really a menace."
