A 38-year-old man is behind bars and another person is recovering from injuries following a reported DWI wreck outside San Benito.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested Juan Lorenzo Arriola around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Arriola was allegedly involved in an accident off South Sam Houston Boulevard and FM 800 just outside San Benito city limits.

State troopers told Action 4 News that the 38-year-old man fled the scene of the wreck on foot.

Paramedics took the driver of the other car had to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen for treatment.

A Cameron County deputy constable found and arrested Arriola nearby.

State troopers reported that Arriola appeared to be intoxicated and failed field sobrieity tests.

A probable cause affidavit in his arrest shows he had a blood alcohol level of 0.231 in one test and 0.246 in another. The legal limit in Texas is 0.08

Arriola appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Luis Saenz on Wednesday morning.

Court records show that Arriola had one prior arrest for DWI but no conviction.

Judge Saenz issued $35,000 dollars in bonds for Arriola.
