Severe thunderstorms are causing a series of road closures and power failures across the Rio Grande Valley.
AEP told Action 4 News that power failures have been reported to hundreds of homes in the region:
McAllen: 1400
Mission: 960
Edinburg: 497
Pharr: 33
Rio Grande City: 10
Weslaco: 20
Harlingen: 6
Port Isabel: 83
Spokeswoman Laura Solis said crews are already out restoring power in areas where the storm has cleared.
Solis said everyone should be up and running by noon.
Lightning strikes and high winds are to blame for the outages.
The Texas Department of Transportation reported that the frontage road of U.S. Expressway 83 between Ware Road and South 29th Street in McAllen has been temporarily closed due to flooding.
The Mission Fire Department reported that the following road are closed due to flooding:
Stewart Road between Business 83 and FM 495
Conway from 1st Street south to Expressway 83
Conway from 9th Street through 11th Street
The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District is reporting that Pre-K buses will not run on schedule because of the storm.
They will run again once the storm passes.
