Mexican politician kidnapped, feared dead

Mexican authorities are intensifying a search for a missing man who once ran for president of Mexico.

The El Milenio website reported that former Senator Diego Fernandez de Cevallos was reported missing on Saturday.

Authorities found Fernandez de Cevallos' SUV near at his ranch in the State of Queretaro.

Officials reported there had been signs of violence at the scene. Many fear he have been kidnapped and killed.

El Milenio reported that there are no signs of the missing politician and that state and federal authorities have stepped up a search to find him.

Fernandez de Cevallos is considered to be a political ally of Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

Both are members of the PAN, or National Action Party.

Fernandez de Cevallos once served as a senator and ran for president of Mexico in 1994.
