An alleged Mother’s Day meth smuggling attempt has landed a Houston man and woman behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Deondra Yesenia Ybarra and Jacob Delgado Nieto on federal drug charges Sunday.

The two drove up from Matamoros at Brownsville’s Veterans International Bridge in a 2001 Ford Explorer.

During a secondary inspection, customs officers allegedly found six bundles with 9.59 pounds of methamphetamines in their car battery.

The two appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Monday morning.

Court records show that both Ybarra and Nieto are American citizens from Houston.

Judge Morgan denied bond for both of them until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
