Drug chase ends next to south McAllen WalMart

A five-city chase ended with an alleged marijuana smuggler crashing an SUV in a drainage ditch next to the south McAllen WalMart.

La Joya police told Action 4 News that the chase started in their city early Monday morning.

The driver of a white pickup truck led authorities on a chase from La Joya and through Peñitas, Palmview and Mission.

Police told Action 4 News that the truck crashed into a drainage ditch next to the East Jackson Avenue WalMart in south McAllen.

Investigators found about 700 pounds of marijuana inside the truck.

Authorities are evaluating the driver for injuries.

Action 4 News will post more information as it becomes available.
