Expressway 83 was closed following a four-car accident on the eastbound lanes, and a diesel fuel tank spill on the westbound lanes.
San Juan police have reported no major injuries, but as a result of the accidents, traffic was bumper to bumper for more than an hour.
Authorities closed off the Expressway, and drivers were forced to detour while the scenes were cleared.
As for the westbound lanes, those lanes remained closed for a longer period, so that crews could clean the debris from the diesel fuel tank that was spilled.
