A jeweled handgun is among the weapons seized from a mini-arsenal that included rocket launchers and grenades in Comales.

The Mexican Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed a battle between Mexican soldiers and criminals took place there on Saturday.

Tamaulipas state officials initially reported six killed in the battle but the SEDENA reports four criminals were killed and two soldiers were wounded.

The SEDENA reported two vehicles and an arsenal of weapons were seized in the incident.

Among the weapons are:

14 assault rifles
1 handgun (jeweled)
3 rocket launchers
4 rocket launcher clips
3 rockets
1 grenade launcher
2 fragmentation grenades
25 grenades
155 clips for different assault rifles
2,494 rounds of ammunition

The jeweled handgun and the other items were turned over to federal authorities.

Comales is located on the south shore of the Marte R. Gomez Reservoir about 10 miles south of Camargo.

The town was historically known for its proximity to good fishing spots on the lake but has become another front in ongoing violence south of the border.

Camargo, Miguel Aleman, Ciudad Mier, Comales and other communities that make up the "Frontera Chica" have become a focal point of violence.

Former allies the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas are fighting for control of lucrative drug trafficking routes.

The Mexican Army and Navy have reported clashes with groups of armed men in the area as well.
