Authorities have arrested a registerd sex offender for allegedly making a false bomb threat at the Hidalgo County courthouse last week.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Javier Perez on a third-degree felony terroristic threat charge over weekend.
A motive has not been released but 32-year-old Perez allegedly admitted to stealing a cell phone and making calling in the bomb threat on Wednesday, April 28th.
The threat proved to be false but tuthorities evacuated the county courthouse as a precaution disrupting work and court cases there.
Perez is expected to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hidalgo County Jail.
Public records show that Perez is no stranger to police.
Perez is a registered sex offender who was convicted for raping a 21-year-old woman back in August 2007.
The Texas Sex Offender registry shows that Perez served about nine months in prison before being released.
The registry shows that he only has to report to authorities once a year.
His last reported address was listed as 1612 East Alberta Road in south Edinburg.
