At least four men are dead following reports of gunfire in downtown Miguel Aleman.

Tamaulipas state officials reported gunfire rang out in the city's center on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators believe the shooting may have caused fires that damaged two downtown businesses.

Later that day, authorities found the bodies of four men west of the city on the Miguel Aleman-Los Guerra Highway.

Authorities did not release their names but said they were all killed from gunfire.

It's not clear if the discovery of the bodies and the downtown shooting are related but the case remains under investigation by state police.

The incident is the latest act of violence in Miguel Aleman, a small city located across the Rio Grande from Roma.

Including the four people killed on Saturday, at least 15 people have been killed in shootouts and other violence in the Miguel Aleman/Los Guerra area.
