Authorities temporarily asked area residents to avoid a busy Reynosa neighborhood following a blockade and shootout that left three wounded.

Reynosa city officials reported the incident in the Colonia Las Fuentes around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Officials said a blockade had been set up at the intersection of Boulevard Del Maestro and Calle Fuente de Diana.

The Tamaulipas Ministry of Public Safety (SSP) confirmed a that a shootout took place in the neighborhood between federal authorities and armed men.

The SSP reported that three civilians were wounded in the battle but did not identify them.

Reynosa city officials lifted the warning around 6 p.m. Friday.

Boulevard Del Maestro is a busy arterial road runs east to west through the central part of the embattled border city.

The boulevard and the Colonia Las Fuentes neighborhood are located behind the Plaza Real shopping center and popular stores such HEB, Home Depot, Sierra Madre Brewing Company and Sanborn's.

Reynosa went through two weeks of relative calm, which ended on Thursday night with attacks on at least three police substations.

Drug cartels used a series of blockades last month to slow down authorities who were pursuing them.

Action 4 News will provide more details as they become available.
