Former Cameron County district attorney Yolanda de Leon sat waiting patiently for what was supposed to be a trial hearing announcement.
Instead, it turned into a major victory, as 2 years after being charged with aggravated perjury and tampering with governmental records for allegedly releasing names of sex assault victims, De Leon was cleared of all charges.
She looked visibly relieved with the outcome as she high fived friends and family.
After the decision was handed down, De Leon told Action 4 all along she was confident justice would prevail.
“I wasn’t going to agree to anything other than that, so I knew we were going to see this thru however long it took," said De Leon.
She points out the dismissal was granted without conditions.
“I did not agree to any wrong doing, I did not agree to any criminal act none of that has been there but it’s ended and I think after 2 years that’s long enough."
Her attorney wouldn’t reveal the details of the agreement only stating, “I met with Mr. Villalobos and his assistant and we talked over what would be a just resolution to these entire cases and we agreed on these terms."
Current District Attorney Armando Villalobos wasn't there; De Leon noted that that action was “more revealing about them than it is about me."
De Leon admitted this whole ordeal took a toll on her life but is glad she can now close this chapter and move forward.
