MISSION -- Mission police are leading the charge against illegal cell phone use in school zones.

Officer Jaime De La Garza said he has been issuing about 10 tickets a day over the last month to people breaking the law.

The Speedzapper tagged along with him along FM 495 near Holland Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

We witnessed two drivers on cell phones who were given citations by police.

Officer De La Garza said the law is meant to reduce driver distractions.

In the area "zapped," there are two schools.

Signage along FM 495 warns drivers that cell phones are prohibited. Both drivers caught on cell phones face up to a $200.00 fine.

Hear what they had to say when the Speedzapper confronted them by clicking on the video link in this week's Streets of Speed.
