MCALLEN -- Loose pit bulls are sparking a feud between neighbors in a McAllen neighborhood.
Some neighbors are afraid to step out of their own homes, and they want the pit bulls gone, but the pit bulls’ owner said her pets are friendly.
They only look intimidating.
Guadalupe Casarez told Action 4 News his mother got quite a scare earlier this week when she walked out the door.
“When (the door) slams, you can hear it, so the pit bulls heard that. My mom saw them, and she started screaming,” said Casarez.
He said his mother used a chair to keep them back, and if the chair hadn’t been there, he’s afraid to think of what would have happened.
“It looked like they would have attacked,” said Casarez.
Casarez’s mother wasn’t bitten, but the Casarez family said other neighbors have had similar run-ins with the pit bulls.
They’re afraid the dogs will attack sooner or later.
“From what we saw, from the way they acted…the way they reacted, it looked like they wanted to attack us,” said Casarez.
Angela Morales, owner of the pit bulls, said she doesn’t think her pit bulls are dangerous.
She said she feels harassed by her neighbors because they’re complaints have lead McAllen police to her home several times.
She said when her pit bulls approached Mrs. Casarez earlier this week; they had escaped through a damaged fence.
“We did round them up, and now, they’re chained up,” said Morales. “I don’t like doing it, but I have to so that I would comply with the city of McAllen.”
Although her pets may pose a problem to neighbors, Morales said she can’t afford the repairs to fix her fence.
But she assured Action 4 News, as soon as she can afford it, she will fix the fence.
