Action 4 News has learned that a Friday morning standoff was a hoax.

Brownsville police set up a perimeter at a property near the intersection of Old Port Isabel and Coffeeport Roads around noon Friday.

Investigators said they received information that a former U.S. Marine had shot and killed his little sister and was threatening to kill his wife.

Authorities said 13 police cars and the SWAT team were called to the scene.

But officers quickly learned that nothing had happened and that the information was false.

Investigators believe somebody used a telecommunications device for the deaf to send the message to police.

Authorities said they are working to learn the origin of the message and the identity of the person who sent it.

Investigators said the sender of the mesage will face criminal charges.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
