Harlingen police have released the identity of a man whose body was found in a drainage ditch on the city's far westside late Friday afternoon.

Investigators said the body of 38-year-old Sonny Wayne Kelm was found in a drainage ditch behind the 200 block of Sendero East.

Police told Action 4 News that Kelm appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers originally responded to the area when Kelm's ex-girlfriend called police to report a welfare concern about him.

More details were not available about the case but police told Action 4 News an autopsy to learn more about his death.

Public records show that Kelm had a previous address in Rio Hondo and no known criminal history.
