A noise ordinance is now in effect in the City of San Juan.

Residents are no longer able to drive through the city with music blaring or even have a loud muffler on their car.

San Juan Police Sgt. Rudy Luna said those caught violating the ordinance will be ticketed.

"We've had a lot of problems with this,” Luna said. “We have people out there that have been complaining about this.  We average about 70 loud music reports monthly, which averages about 750 calls a year."

According to the ordinance, fines can reach up to $500 dollars.
