A Hidalgo County family is speaking out about the death of a 9-year-old girl killed in a two-car wreck early Sunday morning.
Priscilla Cabrera lost her life after an early Sunday morning auto accident in Edinburg.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers told Action 4 News that the accident happened off Canton Road and Val Verde Road around 3 a.m. Sunday.
State troopers said a stop sign at the intersection appears to have been knocked down.
Priscilla's uncle Lupe Lopez, who was driving at the time of the accident, said all he remembers is being broadsided and the car flipping over.
He says he tried helping his niece but she seemed okay so he went to help Priscilla’s aunt who was still stuck in the car
"She was conscious," he said. "When I took her out she was talking to me."
But Priscilla wasn't okay.
When the ambulance got there 30 minutes after the accident, Priscilla was already dead.
Regional DPS spokesman Johnny Hernandez said even though the stop sign was down, the driver heading east on Canton should have stopped.
The grieving family told Action 4 News that a female passenger in their is still in critical condition.
Action 4 News has learned that the driver of the other vehicle, Dulce Elizabeth Diaz, is being charged with criminal negligent homicide and has been booked into the Hidalgo County Jail.
Meanwhile, Priscilla's family said they are grieving the loss of a loved one whose life was cut too short.
They said they will never forget Priscilla’s smiling face and the joy she brought into their lives.
