Recent violence south of the border had many worried about security for Saturday's International Parade between Brownsville and Matamoros.
Authorities were out in full force on the American side of the border to provide security.
The Cameron County Sheriff's Department SWAT team was even posted at the Gateway International Bridge as a precaution.
Several floats in the Brownsville portion of parade crossed the bridge to continue the parade in Mexico.
Matamoros Mayor Erik Silva lead the parade down Calle Sexta and through the city's historic center.
Thousands of people clammored to watch the two-hour parade.
No incidents were reported in the Matamoros parade.
Brownsville resident Lupita Molina told Action 4 News that the International Parade was started well before the violence ever started and will continue long afterwards.
"It's sister city celebrating something they've been celebrating for over 70 years," she said of the annual event. "I don't think things will change anytime soon."
