A Santa Rosa police officer who was recently arrested in a domestic violence case is back in the spotlight.

This time, a young mother is alleging that Officer Mary Hernandez took away her newborn baby.

Sarai Martinez told Action 4 News that she has been involved in a dispute with the father of her 3-week-old baby "Alicia".

Martinez said Officer Hernandez and the girl’s father showed up at her house over the weekend.

The young mother claims that Officer Hernandez “tricked” her into handing over her baby to her father.

Martinez said the baby’s father has a criminal past and that she’s even filed domestic violence charges against him.

The young mother said she filed a complaint against Officer Hernandez, who was arrested in a domestic violence case in San Benito last month.

Hernandez only recently returned to the job.

The Santa Rosa Police Department confirmed they received Martinez’s complaint but said they believe Officer Hernandez acted properly.

They said both biological parents have rights in the case.
