A Hidalgo County Head Start Program employee is facing criminal charges after he allegedly stole toilet paper and other supplies from work.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Rogelio Cervantes on a theft by a public servant charge Friday.

Investigators said the 48-year-old man worked as a warehouse carrier for Hidalgo County Head Start Program for the past two years.

Head Start Program officials reported an internal theft program back on January 29th.

Deputies said Cervantes admitted to stealing 400 rolls of toilet paper, 160 bundles of paper towels and 12 soap dispensers.

Cervantes appeared before Hidalgo County Pct 4-1 Justice of the Peace Charlie Espinoza on Friday where he received a $1,000 dollar personal recognizance bond.

It's unclear why he stole the supplies but deputies said they were able to recover the stolen supplies.

Investigators said at least three other employees were involved in the thefts but will be punished administratively because there was not enough probable cause to arrest them.
