A pair of car thieves who nearly killed a man in McAllen are behind bars under $250,000 dollar bonds.

Rafael Velasquez and Joseph Soto have now been arraigned on attempted capital murder chages.

The two allegedly stole a car from parking lot of a Stripes store along 23rd and Maple Streets early Monday morning.

Police said the owner had left the engine running.

The owner saw them, ran out of the store and jumped on the hood.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the Velasquez and Soto sped off until they crashed into some parked cars on 19th Street.

The car owner still remains hospitalized today but Velasquez and Soto appeared before a McAllen municipal judge on Tuesday.

Each of them received $250,000 dollar bonds.
