A lieutenant at the Hidalgo County Jail found himself on the other side of the law after being arrested as part of an ongoing sexual harassment investigation.
Authorities arrested Hidalgo County Jail Lt. Pedro Treviño on an official oppression charge on Thursday.
Treviño appeared before Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Bobby Contreras on Thursday morning where he received a $5,000 dollar personal recognizance bond.
Court records filed in the case show that Treviño accused of sexually harassing a nurse working at the jail.
The nurse told investigators that Treviño kissed her on her neck, grabbed her against his body and fondled her breasts.
Sheriff Lupe Treviño told Action 4 News that the nurse spoke out prompting an investigation by his Public Integrity Unit.
“Providing a harassment free work environment for all employees should be a priority for any boss regardless of the profession,” Sheriff Treviño said in a written statement. “At the Hidalgo county Sheriff’s Office we strive to maintain that professional work environment at all times. We will continue to enforce our zero-tolerance policy because we believe that nobody should be subjected to that type of treatment by a work supervisor.”
