Find out how you can help

With millions of people left homeless and thousands feared dead, people across the Valley are finding ways to help those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.

James Martin was at Our Lady of San Juan Basilica today saying a prayer for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. He said the images on television tug at his heart.

"I hated to see it on television because I know they suffer," said Martin.

Organizations like Diocese of Brownsville Catholic Charities are trying to do everything they can to help the nation.

"It is part of who we are to make sure we are there with them during this time that's so tragic," said Sister Norma Pimentel, the diocese's head of Catholic Charities.

Through Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities has donated 5 million dollars on a nationwide scale, and this weekend, Catholics will be asked to donate to the relief fund through a second collection.

"Additional funding will come as well to make sure we are present and there with the people in solidarity," said Pimentel.

Martin said he will be donating, "That's what religion is for...to help."

And this weekend, they hope to help on a large scale.

Other ways you can donate:

International Relief Fund
P.O. Box 2202
