A Harlingen man is behind bars after he allegedly raped a woman during a violent domestic disturbance.

Harlingen police arrested Jenaro Martinez under multiple criminal charges early Friday morning.

Officers responded to a burglary call at the home on the 1700 block of Velvet Oaks around 7 a.m. Friday.

Martinez told police that his home had been burglarized but other people there told a different story.

Officers learned that Martinez beat a woman there in an act of family violence.

The woman told investigators that Martinez had beat her and prevent her from calling 911.

The woman told police she tried to defend herself and grabbed a fork stabbing Martinez in the stomach.

The Harlingen man allegedly responded by beating her and raping her.

Paramedics took the woman to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Officers had to use a TASER to arrest Martinez, who reportedly became combative and violent.

Martinez now faces the following charges:

  • Aggravated Sexual Assault
  • Aggravated Assault Family Violence
  • Interference with an Emergency Telephone Call
  • Resisting Arrest

Martinez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $62,000 dollars in bonds.
