Two Houston women are behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after they allegedly agreed to drive two illegal immigrants to Georgia.
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Yadira Perez-Martinez and Angelica Marie Mondragon on transporting illegal immigrant charges on Tuesday.
The two women allegedly drove up to the Sarita checkpoint with two passengers.
Court records show both women are American citizens but that their two passengers were illegal immigrants.
One of the immigrants told Border Patrol agents that he agreed to pay the women $2,000 dollars to be taken to Georgia.
Both 34-year-old Perez-Martinez and 42-year-old Mondragon appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Wednesday morning.
Judge Recio gave both women $25,000 dollar bonds and ordered they return for another hearing on Thursday, January 14th.
Court records show that illegal immigrant Alejandro Diaz-Perez is being held under a $5,000 dollar bond as a witness against the two women.
