HOUSTON (AP) -- U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson of the Southern District of Texas is resigning and will enter private practice.
The 57-year-old Johnson said in a news release Wednesday his resignation will be effective Feb. 13. He plans to join a law firm in the Houston area.
Johnson led the southern district for a little more than a year, taking over in November 2008 after the resignation of Don DeGabrielle.
Johnson first served on the southern district staff from 1986-89 before going into private practice. He returned in 2006 as DeGabrielle's first assistant.
The Southern District of Texas is the sixth largest nationally. It serves 43 counties from its headquarters in Houston and offices in Victoria, Corpus Christi, Brownsville, McAllen and Laredo.
