Leaders in Mission are urging Santa Claus to use the newly-opened Anzalduas International Bridge to set a new speed record.
Saint Nick is reportedly loading up his sleigh to bring gifts to good boys and girls across the world on Christmas Eve.
Mission Economic Development Authority CEO Pat Townsend told Action 4 News that Santa could break a 1973 record for presents delivery by using the bridge.
“With the strategic location of the Anzalduas Bridge, he would certainly be able to make his Christmas deliveries to the good little boys and girls across North America faster than ever,” Townsend said.
The Anzalduas bridge opened for cross-border traffic between Mission and Reynosa on Tuesday, December 15th.
A grand opening ceremony is not planned until January but Mission Economic Development Authority Project Manager Daniel Silva said both travelers and Santa can save time by using the bridge.
“This new international bridge was designed to speed the flow of traffic safely between our country and our neighbors of Mexico to the south,” Silva said. “But even Santa would save some time this year by using Anzalduas.”
Officials with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) have already set up their annual Santa Tracker.
