Man allegedly used dead brother's identity with police
An Arizona child molestor is behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after he was living homeless in Harlingen and allegedly stole cash from a convenience store.
Harlingen police arrested Benjamin Spencer over the weekend.
The 30-year-old man is accused of reaching into the cash cash register of a Stripes convenience store off West Tyler Avenue and the frontage road of U.S. Expressway 77/83.
The incident took place back in November where Spencer allegedly made off with $230 dollars.
A Harlingen patrol officer allegedly recognized Spencer from surveillance video as a homeless person living in the area.
The officer found Spencer and arrested him on the theft case.
Spencer allegedly gave the officer a false name that turned out to be that of his dead brother.
A backround check at the Cameron County Jail revealed that Spencer was wanted for a forgery case and a child molestation probation violation in Coconino County, Arizona.
Spencer remains in custody in the Cameron County Jail.
