More than 200 workers from the Texas Department of Transportation will be on standby tonight in the Valley, as temperatures dip below the freezing mark.
"Right now it’s just a wait and see," said Amy Rodriguez, spokesperson for TxDOT.
Earlier this week, workers unfolded the placards warning motorists about the possibility of ice on the road, but TxDOT said there is no way to tell if there is ice on the road, so they suggest taking extra safety by reducing driver’s speed.
"Slow down, buckle up, don’t drink and drive and just be a defensive driver," Rodriguez added.
TxDOT is also taking steps to keep drivers safe.
"There's fine grain of gravel that we use to defreeze the bridges if we see ice forming and also used on the roadways," she said.
Once they find ice on the road, crews will drive to the location and use the gravel, which acts as a cushion and prevents the ice from spreading.
Rodriguez said it also keeps the cars from skidding or veering off the road.
She added that she hopes their work and the drivers’ cooperation will prevent any accidents during the freeze warning.
