A security guard who worked at the McAllen Bus Station along Business 83 has been charged with theft.
Court documents show 26-year-old Jose Antonio Carmona was arrested December 1st and jailed on a $5,000.00 dollar bond.
Carmona is accused of stealing a 59-year-old man's wallet that was left behind at an outdoor ticket counter.
He was reportedly caught on bus station surveillance video.
A sworn complaint report stated how Carmona went to a bathroom at the station with the victim’s wallet, emptied out $800.00 inside, and then trashed it in a dumpster.
Carmona worked for Rapid Security out of Mission.
The company was hired by the city to handle security at the bus station.
In light of the theft, Mike Perez, McAllen’s City Manager, issued this statement to Action 4 News: "We are meeting with the owners of Rapid Security to discuss their procedures. We are asking the company to conduct background checks and provide additional training to their employees."
A spokesperson with Rapid Security confirmed how the guard in-question passed a criminal background check and was licensed by the state as required by the company.
Carmona was fired on the same day as the incident, which his former employer called “isolated”.
