Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies are keeping an extra eye on the rural community of Lopezville following a drive-by shooting.
Deputies told Action 4 News that the gang-related shooting took place on Church Street east of I Road around 11:05 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators said the intended target was a former leader with the Tri-City Bombers gang.
Authorities said Jose R. “Killer” Garcia was wounded but reported that he and his wife survived the attack.
Deputies told Action 4 News that Garcia is now a leader with the Brown Pride gang.
Authorities believe the four suspects in a dark-colored Jeep belonged to their rivals in the Chicano gang.
Their SUV reported drove by Garcia’s house twice before returning for a third time and opening fire with a shotgun and pistol.
The suspects remain at large but are facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapons charges.
Deputies told Action 4 News that the sheriff’s gang unit and surveillance units will closely monitor the Lopezville community to prevent any further violent outbreaks.
