The American distributor of a popular skin cream from Mexico has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Rio Grande Valley.

The Vitacilina Corporation of America filed for reorganization in McAllen’s bankruptcy court earlier this month.

The company’s Houston-based attorney Elizabeth Alvarado declined to comment on the case Thursday.

Court filings show that the company offices out of McAllen and owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in trade debt to TV stations across the United States, including one in the Valley.

The Mexican skin cream is popular among immigrants and Hispanics.

The company advertises on television in right here in the Valley and other areas with a high Hispanic population.

The bankruptcy filing has not affected the manufacture, distribuation or sale of the popular skin cream.
