ALTON -- Dozens of friends and family members gathered at the Alton home of Staff Sergeant Bradley Espinoza Saturday evening.
They paid their respects to the fallen soldier who was killed in Iraq this past Monday.
“I don’t want him to be forgotten," Espinoza’s mom, Magdalena, said. "He's a good person, he had a big heart and he always found a way to make you smile."
Veterans from across the Rio Grande Valley held a flag raising ceremony for the 26-year-old soldier. They presented a wreath and Espinoza’s battle gear to the family.
Once the American flag was raised, it was lowered again to half mast.
Friends and family members alike were emotionally shaken, they sobbed loudly, knowing they'll never see their beloved Bradley again.
But perhaps the biggest toll will be on Espinoza's family. In addition to his parents and his brothers and sisters, he leaves behind a wife and two small children.
But, it's a loss the whole community will feel. His mom thanked those who have supported them, saying they have helped them get through these tough times. "I love you Bradley and we will always remember you, always."
