He served as our nation's leader for eight years and Thursday night he spoke to students and public at UTPA about the struggles our nation is faces today.
"It is not poverty that kills people's spirit...it is the belief that tomorrow will be just like yesterday," said former President Bill Clinton. "That change is impossible, that improvement is impossible....that people will be denied the right to live their dreams."
Student Tommy Barbosa said he was inspired by the former President's speech.
"It impacted my life and gave me more motivation to succeed, help my family, and this community as a whole
succeed," said Barbosa.
Student Mari Sol Ceballos agreed...but said the President could have focused on one important issue people in the Valley and across the nation face.
"My issue is the middle class," said Sol Ceballos. "We have families that have worked for many years and are still struggling and there are no government programs out there to help them."
Sol Ceballos said she watched her mother work for many years and would like to see assistance for people like her.
"She's tired but she's still stretching for the last year because she wants her social security and it's well deserved," said Sol Cebasllos. "There is something the government can do to reach out to them."
In the end, President Clinton said we are all affected by what happens in the world---we just have to learn to work together to change it.
