A Matamoros man is behind bars after he allegedly gave at least two illegal immigrants border crossing documents that did not belong to them.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Raul Gomez on Wednesday.
Court records show that Gomez picked up two illegal immigrants at a hotel in Matamoros and took them to the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville on Monday.
Customs officers said one of the immigrants had a laser visa that did not belong to her.
Gomez was later identified as the person who gave the border crossing documents to the woman and another immigrant she was with.
Court records show that the 36-year-old Matamoros man was supposed to be paid $1,800 dollars for the smuggling attempt.
Customs officers arrested Gomez when he tried crossing with a third illegal immigrant at the B&M International Bridge in Brownsville on Wednesday.
Gomez appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio on Thursday where he was denied bond.
