A Mission trucker is facing drug trafficking charges in North Carolina after authorities allegedly found 1,758 pounds of marijuana hidden in a shipment of limes headed to New York.
North Carolina state troopers arrested 53-year-old Heriberto Flores, Jr. on marijuana charges last week.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that Flores was driving an 18-wheeler that was pulled over while heading east on Interstate 40 in Bucombe County, North Carolina.
The newspaper reported that the Mission native appeared nervous during the traffic stop and gave troopers conflicting information about this travel plans.
State troopers allegedly found 1,758 pounds of marijuana mixed in with a shipment of limes.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that the marijuana was supposed to be delivered in New York.
State troopers turned the case over the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that the seizure from Flores' 18-wheeler is one of the largest in North Carolina history.
