Jury selection is expected to begin for the trial of Brownsville Mayor Pat Ahumada at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The Brownsville mayor is accused of cashing a $26,000 check made a city contractor from New York.
Authorities claim Ahumada was caught on tape depositing the check into his business banking account.
Ahumada denies the allegations and intends to fight them in his trial.
Attrorneys for both sides of the case met in the 107th state District Court on Monday monring.
A visiting judge heard arguments on a couple of motions for the case but those issues were resolved.
Jury selection is expected to start at 1:30 p.m. and finish some time Monday afternoon.
Opening arguments and testimony are expected to begin on Tuesday morning.
