MCALLEN, TEXAS (AP) -- Smuggler pleads guilty in fatal immigrant case
The operation led to the 2004 deaths of nine immigrants who drowned after the car in which they were being transported plunged into a canal.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in McAllen said Tuesday that 38-year-old Jorge Hernandez Hernandez pleaded guilty after the first day of testimony in his trial.
Hernandez pleaded guilty to bringing in and harboring illegal immigrants and could face as much as life in prison when he's sentenced Dec. 15.
