An El Ranchito man convicted of murder is sentenced to life in prison.

The sentencing verdict was issued just after the noon hour on Thursday at the Cameron County Courthouse.

Efrain Puente was found guilty of killing Francisco Losoyo in what authorities called a crime of passion.  Puente stabbed Losoyo to death after finding him at his wife home back in May of 2008.

After hours of deliberations, jurors decided it was not a crime of passion and sentenced him to life in prison. Puente must also pay a $10,000 dollar fine.
