House Damaged from Hurricane Dolly
One woman, in desperate need of house repairs, is finally getting her wish.
Josephina Roque told Action 4 News her house was extremely affected by the storm.
Roque added FEMA did not provide her with any financial assistance after the storm. “Yes, FEMA gave me some papers. And, a lawyer asked for the papers, but then I threw them away because they didn’t help me. They said I didn’t have insurance.”
She tried to do the repairs on her own, but things never seemed to go her way.
“I would fix one thing and something else would fall apart, and I just couldn’t handle it anymore,” Roque said.
Luckily, Texas State Technical College and the Harlingen Proud Program were looking for a project and came across this home.
Veronica Sanchez, the Student Government President said, "We searched through the community looking for someone who really needed assistance. And, Mrs. Roque was recommended to us."
Unfortunately, Roque was recently diagnosed with cancer.
So, T.S.T.C. and Harlingen Proud Program feel she does need their help.
Roque’s house needs repairs to the floor’s structure and the closets need to be fixed.
Plus, the back of the house received water damage and the roof is caving in.
"We are going to try to come out here on October 24th, which is national ‘Make a Difference Day,’ and put all of our hands and brains together to see what we could do,” said Sanchez.
