A prison guard at the Willacy County Detention Center found himself on the other side of the law after he was allegedly caught buying cocaine for an inmate during his break.
Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General arrested Baldemar Garza on Tuesday night.
The Willacy County prison guard faces a federal possession of contraband in prison charge.
Court records filed in Garza’s case show that he worked as a guard at the Willacy County Detention Center in Raymondville.
The jail houses federal inmates prompting Homeland Security investigators to follow a tip that Garza delivered drugs to inmates to inmates there for a fee.
Garza allegedly charged inmates based on the amount of drugs they wanted.
Court records show that Garza was put under surveillance Tuesday night.
Garza allegedly left the jail during his break and allegedly visited several homes in Raymondville.
Agents approached Garza and discovered he had 7 grams of cocaine on him.
The Willacy County prison guard allegedly admitted to buying the drugs and smuggling it into the facility.
