A 15-month-old Brownsville baby is fighting for his life after allegedly being beaten by her mother's boyfriend.
Brownsville police were called out to 375 North Iowa Street on Friday morning.
Brownsville Police Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique told Action 4 News that officers found a baby critically injured and foaming at the mouth inside the home.
“Broken ribs and a punctured lung or collapse lung, had a broken wrist and multiple bruising thru ought her body," Sgt. Manrrique said of the child's injuries.
Officers said the baby girl was in such bad shape she was immediately taken to the emergency room.
Police say Luis Alberto Espinoza, an undocumented immigrant, was taking care of his girlfriend's children when he noticed the baby wasn't breathing and called 9-1-1.
According to police, Espinoza threw the baby onto the bed unfortunately the infant didn’t make it and instead landed on the concrete floor.
But it doesn’t end there.
Investigators believe that she showed signs of old bruising on top of the new ones.
Doctors determined that the 15-month-old baby suffered damaged to her pancreas and signs of abuse that went past the fall.
But Espinoza's mother, who doesn’t want to be identified, said she isn't convinced.
The Brownsville woman says her son did nothing wrong and adds she doesn’t know what happened but is sure it was an accident.
She goes on to state that her son is a good man who doesn’t drink or do drugs.
The Brownsville mother insists that her son treated those kids just fine.
She also claims that the 15-month-old baby’s mother is currently pregnant with her son’s child.
Police told Action 4 News that the baby’s mother will also be investigated to see if she had any wrong doing in the case.
Espinoza was arrested and facing a $50,000 bond.
